Effective Senates?

If you've ever attended a faculty or staff senate meeting you probably wondered what was really going on. Lots of paper gets passed around, a lot of people get up and say things. Then it's over and you go back to work.

Do you think our senates are really doing their job of representing our best interests? Or are they just another empty gesture?

What do you think our senates should really be doing?

Why hasn't the Staff Senate done more to relay information to the President regarding low wages, no salary increases, increase to health care costs, employees being forced out and layoffs? Why hasn't my staff Senator consulted me? Where are the voting records of my Senator?

I think both senates are a waste of time. Just window dressing so we can all pretend administration listens to us. Just one more big sham.

I understand that the faculty senators get a service credit for wasting their time at Fac Senate. What in the world the staff senators do and how brave they have to be if they are to open their mouths (unlike faculty, they don't have tenure) I have no idea.

In both instances, if both Senates remain subservient to the Administration, they'll continue to waste time and money.
